I am preparing a classroom exercise about what changes when an audio file is exported into different formats. A generated instrumental could provide the example, provided students can always return to the original file. I would start with listening notes so that the image does not dictate their initial observations. I found mp3 to spectrogram as a possible reference while planning the visual part. For the comparison, I would keep the chosen passage fixed and check playback levels carefully. Students should not assume that a difference in the display proves a problem with the source. A worksheet could separate audible observations, export settings, and questions that remain unresolved. There would be no requirement to repair the clip or produce a supposedly perfect version. Students would record the software used for each export so that their comparison can be repeated later. What simple controls would make this exercise understandable for a beginner class?
